Wellington branch currently supports 40 members:

(There are also at least 2 CF adults in the region who are not branch members.)
 
All Adults with CF attend outpatient clinics at Wellington Hospital (CCDHB), as do the majority of children in the region. Approximately 3 children are outpatients at Hutt Hospital (HVDHB), and 2 children go to Keneperu (CCDHB).
 
Most members live in Wellington and its suburbs, although 2 live in Wairarapa, 3 live on the Kapiti Coast and 1 lives in Nelson.
 
Wellington Branch
 
The Branch holds its AGM in February each year and elects its chairperson and committee. It is affiliated to and governed by the National Association and sends branch representatives to the CF Chairperson's Conference each year.
 
The Committee (currently 6 people, from 5 families), meets monthly throughout the year and is active in many areas:
 

Fundraising Initiatives:

  • Grant Applications
  • Supporting National Appeal Week in Wellington, organising permits, collectors, buckets etc.
  • Selling "Entertainment Books"
  • Supporting individual initiatives, sponsored events, School Mufti Days etc.
  • Supporting national fundraising events either financially or with supporters eg Ironman, National Raffle

Fundraising is critical as the branch is the sole provider of essential equipment for PWCF, such as nebulisers - including E-Flows - physio tables etc.

Out-Patients

  • Parking permits for Wellington Hospital
  • Funding Patient Information Folders

In-Patient Support

  • Providing food and entertainment vouchers to Wellington Hospital in-patients
  • Supplying televisons and playstations to make hospital stays more pleasant.
  • Petrol & New World Vouchers are available on request from the Branch for Hutt Hosptial in-patients

Local Newsletter

  • Providing 3 to 4 mailings per year to keep members connected with one another and up to date with branch activity.

Financial Support

In addition to essential medical equipment we have been able to help our members financially in many areas, here are just some recent examples:

  • Conference registration (NZ & Aus) and some travel/ accommodation
  • Gym & activity fees (over and above grant from B4CF), Counselling
  • Subsidised social events
  • Cord Blood collection

Social Events

In one 12 month period, the following events were hosted by Wellington Branch:

  • E-Flow - information evening
  • Australian Conference - feedback evening
  • Farewell social evenings for Keith Grimwood and Archie Kerr (CF Specialist Paediatricians)
  • Christmas Dinner
