Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is part of the multi-disciplinary team at Wellington Hospital involved with the management of people with Cystic Fibrosis.

The physiotherapist will teach and update patients and parents with regards to airway clearance techniques such as chest percussion and deep breathing exercises. They have lots of fantastic ideas regarding exercise and other fun activities for kids to help improve fitness and lung function.

It is important that people with CF clear the chest of phlegm regularly and minimize the risk of further infection.

Physios are able to support people with CF in using nebulisers for antibiotics and hypertonic saline.

Physiotherapists should be present at out-patient appointments, and for in-patients will visit twice daily to carry out chest percussion.
